Before your brake lever reaches for nothing, you should regularly check the brake fluid in your hydraulic brakes and replace it if necessary. The brake fluid tester from IceToolz makes it easy to check the water content in the brake fluid. Even though mineral oil attracts less moisture than DOT, water will accumulate in the brake hose over time due to its hygroscopic properties. This not only leads to corrosion. Much worse: The brake fluid in the brake calliper can boil due to the high friction temperature when the brake is heavily loaded. This causes air bubbles to form which cannot be sufficiently compressed. The braking effect is reduced or does not materialise at all …

Note:
In addition to bleeding when necessary, the brake fluid in the hydraulic brake system should be changed at least every 2 to 3 years for safety reasons. See manufacturer’s instructions.
The discolouration of the mineral oil or the water content can provide information here. Important! When changing, only use brake fluids recommended and approved by the brake manufacturer.
