KMC pinions for Shimano gear hubs are specially designed for use on e-bikes. With e-bikes, chain chainring and pinions transfer the high driving forces on the rear wheel and are therefore subjected to high stress and excessive wear. The higher weight of the bikes with electric assistance also contributes to this. Even with good maintenance of all components, they need to be replaced after a certain period of time.
